William Buonocore - guitar, mandolin, banjo

A native of New York City, William Buonocore has been an active performer in New England for more than 25 years. He has appeared as recitalist in New York, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Toronto, Montreal, Caracas, and Seoul. The Strad described him as "a guitar player of considerable virtuosity and lovely sound" and the Boston Globe said he "played with taste and mastery."

Mr. Buonocore has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet, Concert Opera Boston, Boston Philharmonic, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Portland, Chautauqua, New Hampshire, Vermont, Indian Hill, Nashua, Lexington and Cape Cod Symphony Orchestras. Chamber music credits include Collage New Music, Emmanuel Music, An die Musik, Boston Musica Viva, Lumen Contemporary Ensemble, Manhattan String Quartet, Folios Guitar Duo, Alea III, Boston Conservatory Chamber Players, Masterworks Chorale and others.

Bill received his Master of Music degree from The Boston Conservatory, and was subsequently invited to join its Guitar Faculty in 1989. Three years later he was appointed Chair of the Guitar Department and held that position for 18 years until his resignation in 2010. During his 21 years at Boston Conservatory he also served as adjudicator for the Guitar Foundation of America's International Guitar Competition ('91,'93,'94), and as Artistic Director of the Boston GuitarFest (1995-1997) and New England Guitar Competition (1990-1997). From 1988-1997 he directed the Classical Guitar programs at the University of Massachusetts (Lowell and Dartmouth campuses) and Boston College.

Bill also enjoys working as a pit musician and has performed for such shows as Evita, A Chorus Line, Man of la Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, Follies, Zorba, Ragtime, Chicago, Mame, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Big River, The Spitfire Grill, Guys on Ice, Grease, Chess, Seussical, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Will Rogers Follies, Footloose, Assassins, Godspell, Smokey Joe's Café, Aida, Showboat, The Full Monty, A Year with Frog and Toad, The Good War, The Wild Party, Bat Boy, Dessa Rose, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, A Christmas Survival Guide, It's a Wonderful Life, Adventures in Love, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Les Misérables, Cabaret, Anything Goes, Disney's High School Musical 2, RENT, The Last Five Years, All Shook Up, Hairspray and The Wedding Singer.

He has recorded for Koch International, Arabesque, Neuma, Nepenthe, Arsis, Centaur and Albany Records.

In addition to his busy performing and teaching schedule, Bill also has a strong interest in computer technology. He is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and is currently employed as a Consultant Systems Architect at EMC² Corporation in Southborough, Massachusetts.
